World, the Mysterious Solana Prediction Market, Is Finally Here, and It's Built Entirely Onchain

World, a mysterious Solana-based prediction market that sparked months of speculation on social media, is now live as a fully onchain platform inside Phantom wallet. The platform, accessible at world.xyz and within Phantom on iOS, Android, and desktop, allows users to trade event contracts tied to crypto prices, the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and other markets in sports, geopolitics, and macroeconomics.

What Is World and How Does It Work?

World is a non-custodial prediction market built on Solana that eliminates many friction points plaguing traditional forecasting platforms. Users trade directly from their Solana wallets, with all positions, settlements, and redemptions happening entirely onchain. The platform uses Phantom's CASH stablecoin as its settlement asset, meaning winning positions are redeemed automatically inside the wallet without requiring manual withdrawals or third-party intermediaries.

The project's identity remained hidden until late June, when a legal disclosure on Phantom's website surfaced on social media. Before the reveal, World's cryptic social media posts featuring a glowing globe and the tagline "Trade Everything" fueled rampant speculation that the project could be a meme coin, a trading app, or broader Solana infrastructure play. Copycat WORLD-themed tokens even appeared on token launchpads, though those are not official World assets.

How Does World Solve Prediction Market Settlement Problems?

One of the biggest challenges in prediction markets has always been determining the outcome of an event and settling trades fairly. World addresses this by using Chainlink as its primary oracle infrastructure, relying on Chainlink Data Streams and the Chainlink Runtime Environment to provide market data and resolution infrastructure. This setup reduces reliance on human-led resolution, a longstanding friction point in prediction markets. Other event-contract platforms, including Polymarket, have also moved toward oracle-based settlement for some price-based markets.

"Prediction markets are one of the most powerful applications you can build on a high-performance blockchain. World is designed to show what Solana makes possible: real-time markets, onchain settlement, and a user experience that meets people where they are," said Pedro Miranda, head of consumer at the Solana Foundation.

Key Features of the World Platform

  • Non-custodial trading: Users maintain control of their funds and trade directly from their Solana wallets without depositing assets into a centralized platform.
  • Onchain settlement: All positions, settlements, and redemptions occur directly on the Solana blockchain, creating a transparent and immutable record of all transactions.
  • Chainlink oracle integration: Market data and event resolution are powered by Chainlink, reducing the need for human judgment and potential disputes over contract outcomes.
  • Phantom wallet integration: The platform is embedded directly in Phantom, one of Solana's largest consumer applications, providing immediate distribution and seamless user experience.
  • CASH stablecoin settlement: Winning positions are automatically redeemed in Phantom's CASH stablecoin, eliminating the need for manual withdrawal processes.

What Markets Can Users Trade on World?

At launch, World offers event contracts tied to crypto prices and the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The platform plans to expand into additional markets covering sports, geopolitics, and macroeconomics in the near future. This positions World as a competitor to existing prediction market platforms like Polymarket and Kalshi, though with a focus on Solana's ecosystem and the advantages of onchain settlement.

World is not the only Solana-native prediction market entering the space. Jupiter, another major Solana protocol, unveiled its Forecast beta on June 29, offering 15-minute bitcoin price markets. However, World's integration with Phantom gives it a significant distribution advantage, as Phantom is one of the most widely used Solana wallets.

What's Next for World?

Phantom's debut is the first of several frontend distribution partnerships World plans to activate across traditional fintech and crypto platforms in July. This suggests the platform is pursuing a multi-chain or multi-platform strategy to reach users beyond Solana's ecosystem. The expansion into traditional fintech partnerships could signal an effort to bridge the gap between decentralized prediction markets and mainstream financial platforms.

The launch of World reflects a broader trend in the prediction market space: moving away from centralized platforms and toward fully onchain, oracle-based settlement mechanisms. By eliminating custody requirements and automating resolution through Chainlink oracles, World addresses two of the most significant pain points that have historically limited adoption of prediction markets among mainstream users. Whether the platform can attract significant trading volume and compete with established players like Polymarket will depend on user adoption, market liquidity, and the quality of its oracle infrastructure.
