Self-Custody Wallets Now Offer Direct U.S. Stock Trading: Here's What Changed

Bitget Wallet has integrated Reality, a regulated tokenized asset platform, enabling its 100 million users to trade more than 1,700 tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) directly from self-custodial wallets without surrendering control of their assets. This integration marks a significant shift in how crypto holders can access traditional equity markets while maintaining custody of their digital holdings.

What Does This Integration Actually Enable?

The partnership brings Reality's tokenized stocks, called rTokens, to Bitget Wallet users across Arbitrum and Morph blockchain networks. These rTokens represent real U.S. shares held at Alpaca Securities, a Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA)-registered broker-dealer, with daily independent verification by a third-party accounting firm. Users gain exposure to major companies and broad market indices without converting cryptocurrency to traditional currency, opening a foreign brokerage account, or moving their assets to a centralized custodian.

The available assets span a wide range of equity exposure, including individual stocks and market-tracking funds. Each rToken maintains a one-to-one backing with underlying U.S. shares, and during U.S. market hours, Reality routes orders directly to Nasdaq and New York Stock Exchange liquidity rather than relying solely on isolated blockchain-based trading pools.

How Do Tokenized Stocks Work Within Self-Custodial Wallets?

  • Dividend Distribution: Eligible dividends are automatically distributed directly to users' wallets in stablecoins, a cryptocurrency pegged to the U.S. dollar, without requiring manual conversion or withdrawal to traditional banking systems.
  • Corporate Actions: Stock splits and other corporate events are reflected automatically in users' holdings, ensuring their tokenized positions stay synchronized with real-world equity changes.
  • DeFi Composability: rTokens can be integrated into decentralized finance (DeFi) applications, allowing users to deploy their equity exposure as collateral in lending protocols or other blockchain-based financial functions, extending utility beyond passive holding.

This approach fundamentally differs from traditional equity access for crypto users. Rather than requiring users to exit the blockchain ecosystem, convert to fiat currency, and use conventional brokerage platforms, the integration keeps assets and income streams within the self-custodial wallet environment.

Why Does Self-Custody Matter for Equity Access?

Self-custody means users retain full control of their private keys, the cryptographic credentials that prove ownership of digital assets. This contrasts with centralized custody models, where a third party holds assets on behalf of users. Alvin Kan, Chief Operating Officer of Bitget Wallet, emphasized the significance of this model: "Most users globally have had no viable path to U.S. equity exposure, not because of lack of demand, but because the infrastructure was either inaccessible or required giving up custody. Reality's model is different: real shares, real liquidity, real dividends, and users keep control of their keys throughout. That combination is what makes this integration meaningful."

The integration addresses a long-standing friction point in crypto adoption. Institutional and retail investors seeking U.S. equity exposure have traditionally faced a choice: maintain custody of their cryptocurrency but lose access to traditional markets, or move assets to centralized platforms that offer equity trading but require surrendering custody. This integration collapses that false choice.

What's Driving Growth in Tokenized Assets?

Real-world asset (RWA) tokenization has emerged as one of the fastest-growing segments in blockchain finance. On Bitget Wallet specifically, RWA trading volume grew 27 percent quarter-on-quarter in the second quarter of 2026, with particularly strong adoption in Europe, South Asia, and Southeast Asia.

The integration also includes Bitget Wallet X, the platform's decentralized exchange (DEX) aggregator engine, which has been fully integrated with rToken liquidity. The underlying application programming interface (API) is now open to third-party partners, allowing other wallets, exchanges, and blockchain applications to connect directly to rToken liquidity without building the infrastructure from scratch.

"This integration with Bitget Wallet is an important step in making rTokens available across a much wider ecosystem. Through an open API, wallets, exchanges and protocols can connect directly to rToken liquidity and bring US equity exposure to their users without building the underlying infrastructure from scratch," said Alice Li, Head of Reality.

The infrastructure supporting this integration spans multiple blockchain networks. Arbitrum, which hosts one of the largest financial ecosystems on Ethereum, provides the foundational platform for applications and tokenization. Morph, a separate blockchain network, offers fast, low-cost infrastructure specifically designed for high-frequency trading and real-world asset settlement, with stablecoin dividends landing directly on the network for immediate use or deployment.

This multi-chain approach reflects a broader industry trend toward interoperability and specialized blockchain infrastructure. Rather than forcing all use cases onto a single network, the integration leverages different chains' strengths: Arbitrum for deep liquidity and financial applications, and Morph for rapid settlement and low-friction trading.

What Does This Mean for the Future of Custody?

The integration signals a maturation of self-custodial infrastructure for accessing real-world assets. Bitget Wallet's user protection framework includes hardware-backed key security, independent security audits, real-time risk monitoring, and a 300 million dollar user protection fund, addressing security concerns that have historically driven users toward centralized custody.

As demand for tokenized assets continues to grow across Bitget Wallet's global user base, the platform plans to expand asset coverage and deepen protocol integrations. This trajectory suggests that self-custodial access to traditional markets may become increasingly standard rather than exceptional, reshaping how retail and institutional investors think about custody and market access.
