Flowra's Open Orderflow Auction Brings Competitive Block-Building to Solana Validators
Flowra has introduced Open Orderflow Auction (OOA), a new block-building framework designed to increase validator revenue and improve price discovery on Solana by opening blockspace to competitive bidding. The infrastructure allows registered searchers (entities that identify profitable transaction opportunities) to compete transparently for transaction inclusion rather than relying on closed, private orderflow channels. By creating an open market for blockspace, Flowra aims to distribute MEV (maximal extractable value, the profit validators and other network participants can capture from transaction ordering) more fairly across the Solana ecosystem.
How Does Flowra's Open Orderflow Auction Work?
The Open Orderflow Auction operates as a transparent bidding system where searchers compete to have their transactions included in blocks. This competitive model contrasts with the current Solana environment, where MEV opportunities are often concentrated and accessed through private channels. By opening this process to multiple participants, Flowra creates price discovery mechanisms that benefit validators through higher block fees and more efficient blockspace utilization.
Early testing on a single validator demonstrated measurable improvements. The Flowra-enabled setup increased compute units per block by 20.6%, moving that validator from 84% to 101% of the network average. The validator also achieved higher block fees compared to comparable validator software and maintained 100% block production with 99.999% block engine uptime.
What Additional Features Does Flowra Offer Validators?
Beyond the auction mechanism, Flowra introduced Programmable Block Policy, a feature that allows validators to define their own transaction inclusion policies at the block-building layer. This gives validators greater operational flexibility without requiring changes to Solana's underlying protocol. Validators can now implement policies to meet regulatory or institutional compliance requirements, such as sanctions screening and risk assessment.
Flowra recently announced a collaboration with Honeypot, a compliance infrastructure provider, to integrate sanctions and risk screening capabilities into this layer. This partnership enables validators to maintain compliance standards while participating in the competitive blockspace market.
Why Does This Matter for Solana's Ecosystem?
- Validator Revenue Growth: By enabling validators to capture a greater share of MEV through competitive bidding, Flowra addresses a key pain point in Solana's current architecture where MEV opportunities are concentrated among a few participants.
- Market Efficiency: Open competition for blockspace improves price discovery, meaning transaction fees more accurately reflect actual demand and network conditions rather than being determined by closed, opaque channels.
- Regulatory Flexibility: Programmable Block Policy allows validators to implement compliance measures independently, making it easier for institutional validators and regulated entities to participate in Solana's network.
- Network Performance: Early testing shows that Flowra-enabled validators can achieve above-average block efficiency and uptime, suggesting the framework may improve overall network performance as adoption spreads.
"Solana's performance has made it one of the industry's leading blockchain networks, but its MEV market remains largely concentrated. By opening block building to transparent competition, we're creating a more efficient market for blockspace while giving validators greater control over how their blocks are constructed with full verifiability and auditability," said Harry Hwang, CEO at Flowra.

Flowra's approach draws inspiration from Ethereum's competitive block-building model, where open bidding significantly increased proposer revenue. The company believes Solana's high throughput and low-latency design make it particularly well suited for a similar market-based approach to block building.
Currently, Flowra is onboarding institutional-grade validators to the Open Orderflow Auction, with plans for a broader rollout as the network expands. The framework is now available to validators and searchers participating in the Solana ecosystem, marking a significant step toward decentralizing MEV capture and improving validator economics.
